2001 Opus One
2001 Opus One
Sonoma Wine Shop received this wine immediately upon release in 2004.
We have carefully guarded it all these years, undisturbed, under optimal conditions in the library section of our cellars. This bottle remains in its original, unopened box.
From the winery:
Opus One was founded by Baron Philippe de Rothschild, legendary proprietor of Chateau Mouton Rothschild, and renowned Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. By combining the great winemaking traditions and innovations of both families, the founders’ singular goal was to create an exceptional wine in the heart of Napa Valley.
Opus One, like any great work, arose out of passion. Dedicated to uncompromised quality. Opus One’s sole purpose is to express this vision and passionate spirit for generations to come.
VINTAGE 2001
Light winter rains followed by warm temperatures in May allowed Opus Ones’s vines to flower at an even pace, producing small, concentrated berries. The time from bloom to harvest was quite long at 133 days for Cabernet Sauvignon. Excellent and unhurried, the harvest began September 1st and concluded on October 19th. Inky purple in color with undertones of magenta, the 2001 Opus One shows aromas of black currant, black cherry liqueur, plum and fresh vanilla, with hints of graham cracker and black peppercorn. A supple, creamy entry is followed by intense flavors of ripe black cherry, cassis, and dark chocolate, finishing with lingering black fruit and savory spice.
